#SeniorCareGiving

A social media campaign of WordAlive, the Christian missions arm of The International Gathering at Beth Rapha and Rapha Alliance Ministries.

“I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread”
(Psalm 37:25, KJV).

The goal of the #SeniorCareGiving campaign is to raise awareness of the conditions of the elders of our communities during the Coronavirus pandemic. This campaign calls for soul care practitioners everywhere to join our WordAlive campaign as a way to raise their hearts, hands, and voices to say our elders are not expendable.  Many of them are alive, and are vibrant.  Let’s work together to help them continue to live that way throughout the pandemic.

We will raise awareness by partnering with institutions or individuals responsible for caring for our elders in either a public or private residential capacity to:

  • Provide encouragement to both residents and staff members alike

  • Collaborate with the appropriate staff leadership to acknowledge the staff

Ideas

  • Cards for seniors and staff

  • Musical selections using videos that can be broadcast through the monitor systems, or shared on smartphones

  • Coffee gift cards for staff members

  • Canned food drive to support staff members and their families

What to do: steps you can take

Connect with the institution or caregiver to assess the needs.  Then, decide if your church, or organization, is positioned to match any of its requests.  Institutions typically have a manager or director of community life and/or a social worker with whom you can work -- this may be a good place to begin your inquiry.

Plugging in to the campaign

Use the images in the toolkit to promote your work if you can. But most importantly, when you deliver “the goods,” please take a photo on your phone, and immediately post to your social media page using the hashtag -- #SeniorCareGiving -- and tag us on Instagram @beth_rapha and tag our Facebook page.

Let’s be a light in this dark world by letting them know our seniors are not dead to us: “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread” (Psalm 37:25, KJV).
